 Every year on the third week of August, the town of Aurillac becomes the international capital city of street theatre. Incongruous installations, spectacular machinery, phantasmagorical characters, a new take on circus arts, reinvented theatre and opera...  Every year in August the Aurillac Basin is an area open to all encounters thanks to the International Festival of Street Theatre. Since 1986, the streets of Aurillac see the birth of all forms of expression, from the most cheerful to the most surprising. The inhabitants themselves do not recognize their town!
The Festival of Aurillac, the oldest Arts’ rendez-vous, is well characterized by the opening of the streets and open-mindedness! Some fifteen French and foreign troupes on the programme each year are joined by more than 400 companies passing through and presenting the most varied artistic forms. The cultural freedom and richness have captivated the public (130,000 people every summer) together with the professionals because Aurillac’s International Festival of Street Theatre has become a leading event.  Producers and programmers come to spot and buy shows, sure to find quality together with the freshness and novelty they are looking for.
